Stay Healthy, Stay Safe

…AND STAY AT HOME!

Your health is (y)our top priority right now. That includes physical AND mental health We highly encourage everyone–healthy and sick, young and old–to stay inside and ride this out. And while you’re at it, this is a perfect time to reconsider or look at what you can do to improve your health! Let’s talk about some things that you can do to make the most of this time of “isolation” and come out of this looking and feeling great instead of feeling like a cave troll.

If you’ve struggled with your routine in the past, this might be a great time to nail it down now that a lot of social events are being put on hold or more limited. First and maybe most important: Make sure you’re getting enough sleep. Your body, brain, and immune system will thank you. When you’re sick or feeling under the weather, getting rest is key for recovery. And instead of obsessively checking news or twitter, try sitting back, relaxing, and watching a TV show or better yet, reading a book. Stress has been proven to impact your health and immune system, so try to remain calm and stress-free. It’s also a great time to start something that you haven’t had a chance to, like meditating, learning a new language, even learning a new instrument! It’s good to keep your mind active and exercise that muscle too.

We’ve talked about diet a lot on this blog and now that we’re in “social isolation” mode, this is not the time to screw around! Don’t be tempted to buy a mountain of junk food and “stress eat.” In fact, if you’re hoping to learn how to cook, what better time to do it than when you’re stuck at home? Take some time to look up healthy recipes. There’s a ton with videos in case you’re feeling unsure about whether or not you can handle it. Get inspired about eating healthy. Look up what foods will help to support your immune system. Among them are citruses, bell peppers, broccoli, garlic, ginger, and spinach. You can also get supplements that’ll help. I’ve been seeing a lot of elderberry on the shelves lately. It’s packed with antioxidants and vitamins that have a number of health benefits beyond just boosting your immune system. Also, I’d advise against buying junk food if you’re the type to be tempted to snack when you’re bored. Too many of us have fallen victim to that bad habit. Speaking of bad habits, try to limit drinking (alcohol). I’m not saying don’t have a glass with your dinner, just try to drink in moderation if you want to help out your immune system.

Lastly, keep on exercising. If you have access to a gym, you’re already good to go! Many people don’t right now, but don’t let that stop you from working out. There are tons of exercises that you can do at home or outside. Regular exercise is a huge boost to your immune system and health. If you’re out of ideas for what to do, then you’ve come to the right place! By now you should know about our Trifecta workouts on YouTube, but now that we’re all socially isolating, the Trifecta trainers are adding live streams of workouts so that you don’t have to do it alone.
